THE INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AT UNION INSTITUTE & UNIVERSITY SENDS OUT CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ONEJUSTWORLD AWARDS
Cincinnati, OH | October 31, 2022 08:03 AM Eastern Daylight Time
The Institute for Social Justice (TISJ) at Union Institute & University recently launched OneJustWorld.org, an online community that seeks to mobilize individual and group action for measurable impact. Today TISJ announces a call for nominations for the OneJustWorld Awards. Award winners will be announced in February in conjunction with the World Day of Social Justice.
This will be the first year of these awards, which will recognize and honor those who have demonstrated their leadership and commitment to putting social justice into action in the areas of education, economics, environment, health, safety, and social impact. Anyone can submit a nomination to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a measurable and meaningful contribution. Nominations can be made online here.
“There are amazing people out there doing amazing work,” said Betsy Martin, TISJ Executive Director. “The OneJustWorld awards are to honor and recognize the courage and persistence of changemakers across multiple areas of society. In order to achieve our goal of a more just world, action must be taken in every community; including workplaces, organizations, and neighborhoods. In addition to the awards, OneJustWorld is helping to facilitate the pursuit of social justice through community action by setting up regional Community Action Councils across the country to identify and bring together as many current and aspiring leaders and changemakers as possible. These awards and Action Councils are ways that TISJ can support change leaders, honor them, and celebrate voices with impact.”
While much of the interaction with OneJustWorld.org is online, reaching communities in-person is equally important. Community Action Councils (ACs) are being organized in four regions: South, West, Northwest, and Midwest/East. The first four meeting cities will be selected as the launching point for their region and anyone interested in becoming an Action Council member outside of the designated city, but within the region are also invited to join in on the city’s initial meeting. Meetings will be offered both in-person, at Union Institute & University Centers, and on Zoom. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in Cincinnati Ohio for the Midwest and East regions. Hollywood Florida will kick off the South region. Los Angeles California will host the Southwest and Sacramento California, the Northwest. These meeting dates are listed on the website.
Another way to add your perspective to the community is through OneJustWorld’s “Share My Voice” campaign. Community members are invited to listen to and share the stories and voices regarding all aspects of social justice: What have been your challenges or how have you put social justice into action? Who has inspired you or what have you done to inspire others? What does one just world look like to you? OneJustWorld would like everyone to “Share Your Voice.” Adding your voice via “Share Your Voice” is quick and easy. Simply go to the website and set up an account using your email address. Once you’re logged in, add your voice by entering your response in the box below “What Does One Just World Look Like to You?” You can type in a response and also share images or video.
OneJustWorld offers multiple access points to information and engagement, including:
Resource Center: Project, contract, supplier, and employment matching
Digital Library: Videos, podcasts, webinars, articles, papers, and research
Coffee Chat: Online coffee, conversations, and networking
Virtual Community: Physical and digital work and meeting spaces
Book Circle: Social justice book sharing, discussions, and author events
OneJustWorld is committed to sharing an abundance of opportunities to hear Voices with Impact. All of the upcoming events can be found on the OneJustWorld Events page and links for registration can be found there as well.
