UNFCC Climate Report delivers a message of hope stating 1.5 is within reach if immediate action is taken

As reported, there are no other options; it is global society’s obligation to act now with “drastic, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gases to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees”, because it can. ZESTAs’ SHIP ZERO workshop will be the first ever shipping event to align with the IPCC “very low emissions scenario”, by not contemplating the use of fossil fuels or any GHG emitting fuel or technology. “The simple truth is the time for discussion is past – nothing remains but for us to act. The SHIP ZERO workshop will demonstrate that marinized battery and hydrogen systems are market ready at multi megawatt scales, and that wind propulsion is being installed across the world fleet to delivers significant emissions reductions today. “Wind propulsion uses the power of the wind as a direct renewable energy source and is available everywhere at sea. Any energy taken from wind directly on ships by modern sail technology does not burden the infrastructure that ultimately will be powered by wave, sun and wind, reducing the renewable energy required to produce clean fuels. Palm Communities announces the grand opening of Cedar Glen II, an affordable housing community in Riverside, California, that will assist rent-burdened families and provide permanent supportive housing for special needs individuals. Palm’s affordable housing community supports Riverside County’s Housing First goals as an approach to successfully connect people experiencing homelessness to services and permanent housing. “Preserving and increasing the quality of life for Riverside residents is one of my top priorities,” said Jim Perry Riverside City Council, Ward 6. “Strong public and private partnerships to provide affordable housing and services are imperative to reduce and prevent homelessness in the community. It is the fifth community in which Palm Communities and Riverside County have partnered to provide permanent supportive housing in the area. Additionally, this is the first community in Western Riverside County to utilize “No Place Like Home” funds from the State of California, specifically targeting individuals and families who have been homeless. “Restoring private-sector jobs, improving local infrastructure, and investing in affordable housing are ideal opportunities to increase economic development in Riverside,” said Kevin Jeffries, Riverside County Board of Supervisors, 1st District. “It is essential that quality permanent supportive housing opportunities are built to keep the positive trajectory of growth for our neighborhoods, businesses and families.” Located at 9830 County Farm Road, the community offers one- and three-bedroom apartments. The service-enriched community includes a clubhouse, kitchen, free computer lab, tot-lot, basketball/futsal court, and a walking circuit with exercise equipment. Additionally, residents will have access to on-site case management and connectivity to other services in the community. “California is experiencing an extreme shortage of nearly one million affordable rental housing units for low-income renters. On Monday, August 9, 2021, a General Agreement for a Government-to-Government Partnership was signed between the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria (Tribe) and the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), Interior Regions 8, 9, 10, and 12, which specifically includes the Point Reyes National Seashore and those sections of Marin County which are administrated by the Superintendent of Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS). The 20-year General Agreement is believed to be the only one of its kind in the country. Management efforts will focus on designations of Native American Traditional Cultural Properties eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and ensure Tribal views and traditional ecological knowledge are part of the management of tule elk and the ranching lands in PRNS. “This Agreement demonstrates the federal government’s respect for the Tribe’s sovereignty and self-governance, and the Tribe’s history within PRNS,” stated Greg Sarris, Tribal Chairman, Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. “We are extremely happy and proud of this agreement and look forward to sharing, with the National Parks Service, the responsibility for restoring and enhancing our ancestral lands at PRNS.
